What are the requirements to become a professional sound therapist?
To become a professional sound therapist by acheiving a Sound Therapy Diploma at Irish Academy of Sound Therapy requires a total of 109 hours study. This consists of 45 hours in-class training over 6 days to complete the necessary supervised practical assessments, plus a further 64 hours unsupervised clinical practice to complete the required 32 case study treatments.
The optional Advanced Diploma requires a further 14 + 14 hours study, with a further 35 +35 hours available in Elective study modules to acheive the Grand Certificate of Excellence a total of 208 hours, in compliance with international standards to practice as a sound therapist.
Are there any pre-requisities to study with Irish Academy of Sound Therapy?
A: No.
Anyone with an interest in the subject matter is free to study with us.
Do you require client case study treatments to be completed after Level 1 ?
A: No, we work to the highest international standards for training in Complementary Therapies. This means we don’t allow our students to do any unsupervised clinical practice (case-study treatments) until after they have completed all 3 Levels of their practitioner training and therefore competency assessed to our high Level 3 Practitioner standard.
I am currently studying to be a Psychotherapist/Counsellor, but won’t be finished for another year. Can I still do your training?
A: Yes of course you can.
Just be sure that you have enough time to complete your studies.
Are your Tutors qualified to teach adults?
A: Yes. Our Founder is an ex-College Lecturer in her homeland Australia who studied adult education at Edith Cowan University for a Bachelor of Arts (Training & Development) and insists that all guest teachers at the Academy are also suitably qualified and experienced in teaching adults.
Q. Is your Training Accredited?
A: Yes our training is accredited with SHAI (Sound Healing Association of Ireland) and The CNMA (Complementary & Natural Medicine Association))
Our training also satsifies the requirements for accreditation and registration with most other holistic accreditation organisations not listed above, however we don’t have a discount scheme with them.
Q. Can I complete the ITEC Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology qualification after completing my sound therapy studies with you?
A: Yes of course you can do this if it suits you better.
The ITEC Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology qualification is not a requirement for sound therapy because sound therapy is not a “touch therapy”, ie. the therapist does not touch the client. However it is recommended for every sound therapist as it will help to make you the best you can be for your clients.
Q. Where can I complete this Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology course in Ireland?
A: The recommended ITEC course in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology is freely available as a course from many FET training providers around Ireland in-class or online
A number of private holistic colleges also provide the required training, for.varying fees and duration of study.
Cost of the course ranges from €180 (FET Colleges) to €500 or more at private holistic colleges.
Q. Do you have your 6-day Intensive Sound Therapist course at any time of the year other than August?
A: Sometimes we also hold the 6-day Fast track at other times of the year. This depends on the demand each year.. We usually run it again in November.
If you are interested in studying our 6-day Fast track in December, please get in touch so we can schedule the dates which suit you the best.
